For developmental editors and copy editors.
Many authors write novels in a series, which means that as the editor (whether you’re doing developmental editing or copyediting), you need to ensure continuity across the series. If Blake is left-handed in Book 1, he needs to remain left-handed in Book 3.
But how can you possibly know or remember that kind of information? It is – or should be! – recorded in a story bible.
However, not all authors are adept at writing story bibles and they leave out crucial information. Most of the time, they don’t even have one. But you can offer story bible creation as an additional (paid!) service. It works especially well if you’ll already be editing the manuscript because you can create the bible as you’re editing.
This class is also useful if you work for a publisher or packager that requires editors to create story bibles for the series they work on.
This class describes what a story bible is and how to create and update one. It includes:
- a full example manuscript and the story bible that goes with it
- the step-by-step process of deciding what information to include in the bible
- a practice chapter for you to try your skills on
Note that some of this information also appears in the class Editing Novels in a Series; I recommend against purchasing both classes.
The class is entirely online and asynchronous (you don’t have to be in any particular place at any particular time to participate).
